Light takes wing
Inspired by the abandon and freedom of bird flight, unique technology is applied to the Night Birds – which involves melting glass into a mould and then bending it. The process makes it possible to instil delicate nuances in the shape of the wings and achieve a coloration of glass that is wholly different each time.
In order to withstand the whims of the weather, the Night Birds Exterior Down has been modified to comply with the IP54 rating for exterior use and weatherproofing. The indoor and outdoor lights share the same engineering, which allows a greater selection of light sources and simplifies installation and balancing.
The technologies applied in the Night Birds collection are based on the principles of recycling, sustainability, and environmentally friendly manufacturing. The base material used in the lights is the waste glass generated in the production of other BROKIS collections. This recycled glass material is subjected to several stages of processing using older glassmaking techniques (hand grinding, sandblasting) as well as newer ones (melt moulding, waterjet cutting, mould shaping), giving rise to a skilful blend of tradition and modernity. Each light is an unrepeatable original with its own story.
BROKIS’s lead-time is 10 weeks, from ordering to leaving the factory. Each piece of handblown glass lighting passes through the hands of more than 30 highly skilled craftsmen, whose expertise and dedication ensure the highest standards of quality and authenticity.
Boris Klimek is an award-winning Slovak product and interior designer based in Prague. His work seeks to create conceptual overlaps, games, and stories, and the resulting products are functional but also poetic, playful, and capable of awakening the imagination and stirring emotion.
Slight differences in colouration are inherent to the production of handblown glass, yet they must remain within tolerance.
Install instructions for BROKIS lighting can be found in our download centre.
BROKIS lights are available with a variety of mounting options. Surface mounting works in all situations. This also applies to suspended lights up to a roof slope of 30°. For mounting flat, pure and recessed lighting, a suspended ceiling or cavity wall must be available for flush mounting.
For almost all BROKIS lights, a solution can be found with a sideways inlet if the electrical outlet is not in the right place.
A standard length of cable is included in the price of Night Birds Exterior Down; with an overall height of 49.5cm – 229.5cm.
An extra cable length up to 500cm is optional during the ordering process. Lengths over 500cm must be consulted and priced individually by BROKIS at EDC.
TRIMLESS eliminates the need for a conventional ceiling canopy and simplifies installation in drywall ceilings. It gives ceiling installations a clean, minimalistic appearance and provides a new degree of variability in creating original lighting compositions.
