Brokis Awa
Brokis Awa by Fumie Shibata captures Japanese design poetry through the word "awa" - a bubble of air trapped in liquid. Delicate hand-blown Czech glass retains soft inflated forms, creating luminous spheres that float gently in space. Wood and metal components appear as glass stoppers preventing air from escaping, achieving ethereal sculptural beauty.-

That singular moment when air becomes form – when a bubble suspends perfectly within liquid – inspires Brokis Awa. Designed by Japanese designer Fumie Shibata, this delicate collection explores the Japanese concept of “awa” through Czech hand-blown glass that captures the ephemeral beauty of inflated forms frozen in time.
The essence of Brokis Awa lies in creating the impression of a luminous ball of air floating gently in space when viewed from below. A special characteristic emerges through the masterful integration of wood and metal components that appear made of glass themselves, functioning as stoppers keeping air from escaping – a sophisticated trompe-l’oeil that enhances the ethereal quality. Recent additions include versions featuring frosted glass in the top half, adding subtle variation to the diffused glow.
Optional Trimless installation eliminates conventional ceiling canopies, providing clean minimalist ceiling integration for drywall applications. Available in transparent, smoke grey, and smoke brown Czech glass paired with refined finishes including matte black, silver anodized, copper, brushed champagne lacquer, plus natural European oak or American walnut wood accents. Large and Medium pendant configurations suit residential and hospitality interiors seeking delicate sculptural lighting with Japanese-inspired refinement and Czech glassmaking mastery.
Brokis Awa from a Bubble of Air
BROKIS’s lead-time is 10 weeks, from ordering to leaving the factory. Each piece of handblown glass lighting passes through the hands of more than 30 highly skilled craftsmen, whose expertise and dedication ensure the highest standards of quality and authenticity.
Fumie Shibata works in a variety of different fields. From everyday electronics and specialized healthcare technology to unique capsule hotels, Fumie effectively adapts her knowledge of and capability for design.
Slight differences in colouration are inherent to the production of handblown glass, yet they must remain within tolerance.
Install instructions for BROKIS lighting can be found in our download centre.
BROKIS lights are available with a variety of mounting options. Surface mounting works in all situations. This also applies to suspended lights up to a roof slope of 30°. For mounting flat, pure and recessed lighting, a suspended ceiling or cavity wall must be available for flush mounting.
For almost all BROKIS lights, a solution can be found with a sideways inlet if the electrical outlet is not in the right place.
TRIMLESS eliminates the need for a conventional ceiling canopy and simplifies installation in drywall ceilings. It gives ceiling installations a clean, minimalistic appearance and provides a new degree of variability in creating original lighting compositions.
